Understanding How God Deals With Us – Part 13
The day we receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour (Romans 10:9-10) His Spirit comes to dwell in us (Romans 8:9) and our spirits become one with His Spirit – 1 Corinthians 6:17.
Our old sinful nature gets completely removed from us – Romans 6:6. But we remain with habits that were formed because of the mind and body that were programmed to sin by the old sinful nature. New programming has to begin for our lives to change – Romans 12:2 and 2 Corinthians 3:18.
This is the reason we should spend time learning about our new spirit because that will start reprogramming our mind, which will then cause a change in our behaviour. Before we believed in Christ we spent time learning how to indulge the sinful nature. The habits we picked up when we had the old sinful nature do not automatically disappear when we believe in Jesus Christ. New habits need to be formed to replace the old ones.
We form new habits by walking in the Spirit – Galatians 5:16. As we agree with who we are in the spirit our physical mind get changed. It is important, therefore, to constantly here about our spirits that are identical to Jesus (1 John 4:17).
Knowing the truth about our spiritual state empowers us to experience freedom from the power of sin – John 8:32. Being told what is wrong with our minds and bodies reinforces the wrong and we fail to break free from what binds us. Knowing the truth about the fact that our spirits are perfected forever (Hebrews 10:10&14) is what continually changes our minds and subsequently our behaviour.
If you are a believer in Christ know that you don’t have an evil nature in you, it was completely removed from you – Romans 6:6. Now, help your new nature to take control of your life by spending time learning about your new nature – Ephesians 1:4; 4:24.
As believers in Christ we must know that we have, inside us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control – Galatians 5:22-23. We must allow that which is in us (spirit) to overcome what dominates our minds and bodies – Galatians 5:19-21. Faith is the tool to use to achieve this change – Romans 10:17 and 1 John 5:4.
Our thought patterns and habits that were formed and established through the old sinful nature start to diminish as we constantly choose to fill our minds with who we are in the spirit. We should use music, social gatherings, books, social media, etc, to pump ourselves up with the Word of God. We will see our lives change to reflect the new nature we have received.
This is how we effortlessly change our lives, we simply expose our minds to the truth of who we are in the spirit.
