The Real Gospel – Part 16

The Real Gospel — Part 16

The sign that we belong to God is not that we do not sin, it is His Spirit who lives in us (Romans 8:9).
Our relationship with God is based on our spiritual reality (that is whether we have His Spirit in us, or we don’t — Romans 8:9), not what we do in the flesh. We can do all what God says is good, but, if we are not born-again we are not in right standing with God (John 3:3).
John 4:24 says, “For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.” OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD IS NOT ABOUT GOING TO CHURCH AND BEING INVOLVED IN SOME CHURCH SERVICE, IT IS ABOUT HAVING OR NOT HAVING THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST IN US (Romans 8:9).
Once we are in right standing with God (John 3:3&16), THE HOLY SPIRIT GOES TO WORK IN OUR BODIES TO TRANSFORM US TO BE LIKE CHRIST (Romans 8:10-11). THE MORE WE FOCUS ON WHO WE ARE IN THE SPIRIT, THE MORE WE GET TRANSFORMED TO THAT IMAGE (2 Corinthians 3:18 & Romans 12:2).
It is for this reason that Ephesians 4:24 says, “And that you PUT ON THE NEW MAN WHICH WAS CREATED ACCORDING TO GOD, IN TRUE RIGHTEOUSNESS AND HOLINESS.” We should not focus on fulfilling the desires of our flesh, but pursuing the Kingdom of God (Romans 14:17).
Romans 8, verses 12‭-‬13 say, “My dear friends, we must not live to satisfy our desires. If you do, you will die. But you will live, if by the help of God’s Spirit you say “No” to your desires.”
How do we say “No” to our desires?
Galatians 5:16 says, “If you are guided by the Spirit, you won’t obey your selfish desires.” And, Romans 6:18 says, “Now you are free from your slavery to sin, and you have become slaves to righteous living.”
Therefore, we overcome fleshly desires by giving ourselves to works of righteousness. DOING THE WORKS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS TRAINS OUR SENSES TO DISCERN BETWEEN GOOD AND EVIL (Hebrews 5:13).
Romans 12, verses 1-2 say, “And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to GIVE YOUR BODIES TO GOD because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. DON’T COPY THE BEHAVIOR AND CUSTOMS OF THIS WORLD, BUT LET GOD TRANSFORM YOU INTO A NEW PERSON BY CHANGING THE WAY YOU THINK. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”
God transforms us by changing the way we think. AS WE SEE OURSELVES HOLY AND RIGHTEOUS, WE WILL SEE OUR LIVES CHANGE TO REFLECT WHO WE ARE ON THE INSIDE (Ephesians 4:24, Hebrews 10:10,12,14, Galatians 5:16, and 2 Corinthians 3:18)
IT IS IMPORTANT THAT WE DO NOT DO RIGHTEOUS WORKS OUT OF FEAR OF LOSING OUR SALVATION IF WE DO NOT MEET A PARTICULAR STANDARD. The Holy Spirit is our guarantee that we are children of God if He (Holy Spirit) is in us (Ephesirans 1:14).
Conclusion:
Romans 8, verses14‭-‬16 say, “ALL WHO ARE LED BY GOD’S SPIRIT ARE GOD’S SONS AND DAUGHTERS. You didn’t receive a spirit of slavery to lead you back again into fear, but YOU RECEIVED A SPIRIT THAT SHOWS YOU ARE ADOPTED AS HIS CHILDREN. With this Spirit, we cry, “Abba, Father.” THE SAME SPIRIT AGREES WITH OUR SPIRIT, THAT WE ARE GOD’S CHILDREN.”
