The Real Gospel — Part 17
Our relationship with Jesus makes us heirs of God.
We are joint-heirs with Christ of everything God has.
Romans 8:17 says, “And if children, then heirs — HEIRS OF GOD AND JOINT-HEIRS WITH CHRIST, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.”
Romans 8:18 says, “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with THE GLORY WHICH SHALL BE REVEALED IN US.”
It is important to note that verse 18 says THE GLORY SHALL BE REVEALED IN US, not TO US.
When did we receive this glory?
Colossians 1:27 says, “To them God willed to make known what are the RICHES OF THE GLORY OF THIS MYSTERY among the Gentiles: WHICH IS CHRIST IN YOU, THE HOPE OF GLORY.”
When we received Christ, HE CAME INTO OUR HEARTS WITH HIS GLORY. That means we have His fullness (John 1:16).
Now, the question is: how do we tap into what we already have?
Paul said in Philemon 1:6, “The sharing of your faith may become effective BY THE ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF EVERY GOOD THING WHICH IS IN YOU IN CHRIST JESUS.”
According to this verse, AS WE ACKNOWLEDGE THE GLORY THAT IS IN US, OUR FAITH WILL BECOME EFFECTIVE. This is how we tap into the glory we have within us.
Paul prayed the following prayer for the church at Ephesus:
“… do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory,
May give to you THE SPIRIT OF WISDOM AND REVELATION IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF HIM, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened;
THAT YOU MAY KNOW what is the hope of His calling, what are THE RICHES OF THE GLORY OF HIS INHERITANCE IN THE SAINTS,
And what is THE EXCEEDING GREATNESS OF HIS POWER TOWARD US WHO BELIEVE, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 1:16-20
In this prayer, Paul did not ask God to give the church more of the Holy Spirit, glory, and His power. HE PRAYED THAT GOD GIVES THEM A REVELATION OF WHAT THEY ALREADY HAVE.
He prayed that they may understand that:
1. they are beneficiaries of Jesus’ calling,
2. they have the glory of His inheritance, and
3. that they have the same power that God used to raise Him from the dead.
Therefore, the real Gospel IS NOT ABOUT GETTING FROM GOD, IT IS ABOUT DISCOVERING WHAT WE ALREADY HAVE AS JOINT-HEIRS WITH CHRIST.
