The Real Gospel — Part 18
All of creation is waiting, with intense anticipation, the manifestation of the glory of God that is in the believers (Romans 8:18 & 1 John 3:2)
This will not be completely done until we receive our glorified bodies and totally renewed minds, BUT WE CAN DO IT NOW TO THE DEGREE THAT WE RENEW OUR MINDS AND ACT ACCORDINGLY.
Romans 8:19 says, “For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.”
Continuing with verses 20-23 of Romans 8, we see that the animal creation was plunged into the same degenerate state as mankind so that they could also be redeemed with us into liberty.
Romans 8 vs 24-25 say, “We were given this hope when we were saved. (If we already have something, we don’t need to hope for it. But if we look forward to something we don’t yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently.)”
Paul had been speaking of the glory that is in us (Romans 8:17-18) and the day when we would receive glorified bodies and renewed souls that would perfectly manifest that glory.
This is the hope to which he was referring. And we can’t see the full manifestation of that hope as long as we are alive in these bodies. But this is what we are believing for.
Verse 25 says patience has a direct relationship to hope. If we don’t have a strong hope, we can’t have patience. THEREFORE, TO INCREASE OUR PATIENCE, WE NEED TO INCREASE OUR HOPE.
And, Romans 8:26 says, “LIKEWISE THE SPIRIT ALSO HELPS IN OUR WEAKNESSES. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with GROANINGS WHICH CANNOT BE UTTERED.
The word “likewise” is stressing that IN THE SAME WAY THAT HOPE HELPS US ENDURE until the redemption of our bodies (Romans 8:23), SO THE HOLY SPIRIT HELPS US through the weaknesses of our flesh by interceding for us.
The word “helps” describes a union, NOT THE HOLY SPIRIT DOING ALL THE INTERCEDING FOR US. THE HOLY SPIRIT HELPS US AS WE ARE INTERCEDING, but He doesn’t automatically do it for us.
Paul did explain the weaknesses the Holy Spirit helps us through when he says, “For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought.” The weaknesses this scripture is speaking of ARE THE WEAKNESSES THAT COME FROM NOT KNOWING HOW WE SHOULD PRAY.
it is very comforting to know that the Holy Spirit is there to help us. However, He helps us; HE DOESN’T DO THE INTERCEDING FOR US BUT THROUGH US.
Even Jesus drew on this ministry of the Holy Spirit. It is written in John 11:33 and 38 that JESUS GROANED IN THE SPIRIT twice when He raised Lazarus from the dead.
If Jesus needed the Holy Spirit to help Him when He didn’t know how to pray (though Jesus was fully God, when He was on earth He operated as a sinless man), then certainly this should be an important ministry of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
As we desire to manifest the glory of God that is in us, we should follow what Jude 1:20 says:
“But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, PRAYING IN THE HOLY SPIRIT.”
We should let the Holy Spirit control us. We do this by praying in the Holy Spirit. This includes, but is not limited to, praying in tongues (1 Corinthians 14). As we pray in the Holy Spirit we build up ourselves on our most holy faith.
As we build ourselves up on our most holy faith we will manifest the glory of God. WE DON’T HAVE TO PRAY THAT GOD GIVES US HIS GLORY, IT IS IN US ALREADY (Romans 8:18, Colossians 1:27, & Ephesians 1:18).
REST IN THE FINISHED WORK OF JESUS CHRIST – Hebrews 4:1-3!
