The Real Gospel – Part 29
Faith without works is dead (James 2 v 17). Having said that, it is important to note that there is a difference between “works of faith” and “works of the Law”.
“Works of faith” are those things we do which correspond with what we believe. When we are in faith, we don’t say one thing and do the opposite.
“Works of the Law” are what Israel had to do for them to keep their relationship with God. Their relationship was conditional to their performance against God’s Law.
We are not called to keep the Law, like Israel had to. WE ARE CALLED TO HAVE FAITH IN WHAT JESUS DID FOR US. Their relationship with God was performance based, while our relationship with God is faith based.
FAITH AND THE LAW DO NOT MIX (Romans 11 v 6 & Galatians 4 v 21-31). Justification before God is ONLY BY FAITH (Galatians 3 vs 11&21).
Gentiles (Non-Jews) do not have to do the works of the Law that God gave to the Jewish nation for them to be acceptable before Him (Romans 3 vs 19-22).
Under the current dispensation of God’s grace, nobody, and no group of people, has a “special corner” in God (Galatians 3 v 28). God has ensured that we are all treated equally when it comes to our acceptance before Him (Romans 3 vs 22-24).
When this truth was first introduced, some people thought that God was rejecting His special people since they could no longer reach Him through the special way He had instituted for them; The Law.
Paul explained that there’s the New Way to relate to God; FAITH IN CHRIST (Romans 3 vs 20-22; 10 vs 9-10). This means that even ISRAEL HAD TO LEAVE THE WORKS OF THE LAW AND APPROACH GOD LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE; THROUGH FAITH (Romans 11 vs 1-7).
This became a stumbling block to Israel (1 Corinthians 1 v 23), and it led to many of them rejecting faith in Christ. But God has a remnant of those who will follow Christ (Romans 11 vs 5-6).
Subsequent to Israel’s rejection of Christ, God welcomed Gentiles to a relationship with Himself. He believes that this act will provoke Israel to jealousy (Romans 11 v 11), and they will accept faith in Christ.
The Bible says Israel’s rejection of Christ has opened the door for Gentiles to come into a relationship with God (Romans 11 v 17-20).
GOD WILL RESTORE HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH ISRAEL WHEN THEY BELIEVE IN CHRIST (Romans 11 vs 23-32).
Romans 11 vs 33-36 say:
“33 Oh, how great are God’s riches and wisdom and knowledge! HOW IMPOSSIBLE IT IS FOR US TO UNDERSTAND HIS DECISIONS AND HIS WAYS!
“34 For who can know the Lord ’s thoughts? WHO KNOWS ENOUGH TO GIVE HIM ADVICE?
“35 AND WHO HAS GIVEN HIM SO MUCH THAT HE NEEDS TO PAY IT BACK?
“36 FOR EVERYTHING COMES FROM HIM AND EXISTS BY HIS POWER AND IS INTENDED FOR HIS GLORY. All glory to him forever! Amen.”
