The Real Gospel – Part 31

The Real Gospel – Part 31

God never asks us to do what He has not equipped us to do.

We can be all that He says we can be. We can do all that He says we can do. We simply have to apply His principles within their context.

Example:

We can live like we are told to live in Romans 12 v 1 if we understanding Romans 12 v 2.

In part 30 of this series, we saw that true worship of God includes presenting one’s body as a living sacrifice ( Romans 12 v 1). In Romans 12 v 2, Paul tells us how to achieve this.

This is what Paul said: “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God TRANSFORM YOU INTO A NEW PERSON BY CHANGING THE WAY YOU THINK. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

It is important to note that here Paul says IT IS GOD WHO TRANSFORMS US; WE DO NOT TRANSFORM OURSELVES.

Religion tells us to transform ourselves, THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST TELLS US THAT GOD WILL COMPLETE THE WORK HE STARTED IN US (Philippians 1 v 6).

In Romans 12 v 2, Paul continues to say that transformation happens WHEN WE CHANGE THE WAY WE THINK. Our minds are like the software that drives a computer. A computer can only perform functions it is programmed to perform.

We also, can only produce results or act in line with what is in our minds. That is why Paul says “LET GOD TRANSFORM YOU INTO A NEW PERSON BY CHANGING THE WAY YOU THINK”.

This shows how much we need to change our thinking to line up with the Word of God. Therefore, NO WORD… NO TRANSFORMATION.

This transformation is similar to the change that is undergone by a caterpillar when it transforms into a butterfly. When we change the way we think, we can completely transform from what we currently are like.

So, after we have committed our lives to the Lord, as per Romans 12 v 1, WE HAVE TO MOVE ON TO RENEWING OUR MINDS BY THE WORD OF GOD.

When people are born again (John 3 v 3), they become totally NEW CREATIONS IN THEIR SPIRITS. THEIR SPIRITUAL SALVATION IS COMPLETE. They don’t need any more faith, joy, or power. They are complete in Him (Colossians 2:9-10 & Matthew 26 v 41).

However, it is not God’s will that we only be changed on the inside. He wants to manifest this salvation in our physical lives also. THAT TAKES PLACE THROUGH THE RENEWING OF OUR MINDS.

We do not need a special ministry (such as prayer, laying on of hands, fasting, anointing oil, etc) for us to change, the Word of God has the power to transform us (John 8 v 32 & John 17 v 17).

The special ministries I mentioned above have their place. BUT, THEY CANNOT TAKE THE PLACE OF THE WORD OF GOD.

Conclusion:

Romans 12 v 2 gives us a wonderful promise that we can prove (establish) God’s will in our lives. The first step is to make a total commitment of our lives to the Lord (“living sacrifice,” Romans 12 v 1).

Actually this is the will of God for us all. Our vocation is secondary. God’s will for all of us is to be living sacrifices to Him. Once that is accomplished, more specific direction will come as we renew our minds.

Let’s:

REST IN THE FINISHED WORK OF JESUS CHRIST – Hebrews 4:1-3!
